6 ways your business can save the planet

The news is full of discussions on global warming and what we can do as individuals to help save the planet. But what can businesses do to improve their carbon footprint?

In this article, we’ll be exploring some easy ways that your business can help save the planet.

Encourage staff to go green

Encourage a cycle to work and/or a car share scheme amongst your employees, these not only promote green practices but can also save your staff money. Consider offering rewards such as vouchers towards a new bike or a pass for public transport to show them that you appreciate their hard work.

Lighten your bills

Encourage staff to turn off lights when not in use and, if possible, install motion sensors. These are an effective way to ensure that the electric is only being used when needed. Replacing ordinary bulbs with LED energy-saving ones is also a great way to save electricity. Enable energy-saving mode on computers and ask staff to switch them off at the end of the day, rather than just putting them in sleep mode.

Recycle everything possible

Recycling everything possible, from paper and toner cartridges to plastic and even unwanted or broken electronics. Disposing of all these products safely ensures that there’s minimal damage to the environment!
Going paperless is a great way to minimise the amount of paper that you have to throw away, encourage staff to not print unless absolutely necessary and instead ask them to use cloud sharing software to distribute any communication. Going digital for departments such as accounts, finances and payroll can not only save on ink and paper but it can save time and stress too!

Be eco-conscious

Be more conscious of your packaging and distribution techniques, ask yourself if your packaging and distribution is as eco-friendly as it could be. If it isn’t, where can you start to implement small changes to make a difference? Consider switching to more eco-conscious and ethical suppliers, make sure that your suppliers echo the brand values that you care so much about.

Be a voice for change

Get employees involved! Communicate your sustainability plans with them and ask for their feedback, this will help them feel involved and empowered to become champions of your brand values. It’s also important that you lead by example, be aware of your own carbon footprint both inside and outside of work and act as you want your employees to act.

Encourage businesses, customers and the local community to ‘go green’, this will help with enhancing reputation and having your brand recognised as eco-friendly. Be vocal about environmental concerns and educate customers on how small changes can make a big difference. Look to other green companies for inspiration, see what they’re doing to improve their carbon footprint and adopt ideas that work for your business!
